Quietstone Studio is a design-led maker studio founded by Hazel Chen in 2026. Originally trained as a softwear engineer, she found herself drawn away from the digital and toward the tangible. Her work combines computational thinking with traditional craftsmanship. Precision and structure guide our design process, while the natural character of wood, metal, and stone-inspired materials gives each object warmth, individuality, and soul.

The most expressive objects are often the quietest. Stones rarely demand attention, but they shape atmosphere in subtle and enduring ways. Our name is inspired by the quiet presence of stone. We creates objects to be appreciated from afar and up close for their rich textures, subtle shades, and intricate tactility.
Just as no two stones are ever truly alike, neither are the materials we choose. Every stone carries the story of its origin - its weight, texture, contours, and mineral composition shaped by years of weather, pressure, and time. We see the same quiet individuality in wood, metal, and every natural material we work with. The grain of timber, the patina of metal, and the imperfections of stone each possess a character that cannot be manufactured. Rather than concealing these differences, we celebrate them, allowing the unique personality of every material to shape the objects we create.

We believe thoughtful design begins long before an object is made. From responsibly sourcing to refining every design to minimize waste, we consider the environmental impact of each decision. Our commitment extends beyond the object itself through reusable packaging designed to serve a purpose long after it arrives, reducing unnecessary waste while encouraging a more mindful way of living.
The dappled lamp is packaged in a wooden box crafted from leftover plywood or solid-wood boards from our wood workshop. With clean proportions and a subtle aesthetic, it is designed to be kept and reused as a storage box rather than discarded after unboxing.

Our studio is in its early stage, with plans to expand into a broader range of considered home objects and new materials. Each piece will follow the same thinking: material, form, process, and environment together from the start.
